Guiding for Murray River Trails is a unique opportunity to work in an amazing part of South Australia and to meet interesting people from around Australia and overseas.

Guiding is a challenging job and equally rewarding, requiring high levels of responsibility, great communication skills and passion for nature.

Guiding roles can include walking, nature interpretation, kayaking, houseboat driving and preparation and serving of food.

Job pre-requisites include enjoying people, a willingness to learn and having a positive attitude.

Guiding Roles

Guiding with Murray River Trails is the expereince of a lifetime and below are the various opportunities available with our company.

Lead Guide

Lead Guide holds the overall responsibility for the group whilst on tour. They listen to the guests and the guiding team to ensure everyone is gaining from the experience.

Each day they will lead the group and provide key interpretation, helping guests gain a greater understanding of the landscape surrounding them. Food prepartion duties are included.

Assistant guide

The Assistant Guide has natural organisation skills and helps with delivering interpretation and ensuring the group's enjoyment and comfort during the tour.

The Assistant Guide supports the smooth operation of a tour, helping with food preparation duties each day as well.

Boat Host

The Boat Host is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming environment on the houseboat that guests return to at the end of the days activities. They display amazing organisation skills, an interest in food service and hold high standards in food preparation, handling and safety.

They are responsible for all on tour food preparation and maintaining houseboat cleanliness along with ensuring guest safety on the houseboat.

Houseboat Driver

Houseboat Drivers are responsible for the daily movement and mooring of the houseboat.

They are only present for the daily houseboat movement requirements and have limited interaction with guests.

Qualifications

You don't need any formal qualification to guide for Murray River Trails, however  a diploma in Outdoor Leadership or equivalent is desired for walking guides and experience in cooking is desired for Lodge Hosts.

Guiding roles are suited to people who have great communication skills, passion for nature and good time management skills.

Successful applicants will already hold or be working towards their First Aid (or Wilderness First Aid), Boat License, Drivers License, Safe Food Handling, and Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificates.

We provide training in other areas to successful applicants.
